JEDDAH, 19 April — The third series of Community Chess Club Amateur round robin and Stepladder Knockout final off to a fine start recently.
Saudi Fahad Al Hilal of Al Hilal Est. and Amed Al-Habeb of Saudia Airlines, Afghanistan’s Jan Muhammad of Jeddah Municipality, Yemeni Abdulla Muhamed of Fahad Est. Pakistan’s Irshad Hussain of Trans Desert, Filipino Edgar Mallari of Saudi Telephone Co. Glenn Tolo of El Khereji Corp, Alex Dampil and Michael Sangalang of King Faisal Naval Base, Marvin Franco of Bashawri Optical, Anselmo Seidel of Al Obiri Rent-A-Car, Ramon Andrada of ABV Rock, Ali Saif of Al Hilal Est. and Ronald Eugenio of Kaki Travel Agency are in full gear as as they started their mind games.
Phase One and 1st round results of the Active Game Single round robin:
G. Tolo (Bird Opening) lost to E. Al Habeeb 0-1, J. Muhammad (Ruy Lopez Opening) beat E. Mallari 1-0, A. Seidel (English Opening) outbalanced A. Dampil 1-0, F. Hilal crushed the French Defense of I. Hussain 1-0, A. Muhamed was outmaneuvered by R. Andrada (King Indian Defense) 0-1, M. Sangalang and M. Franco (Sicilian Najdorf Variations) went to a wringer. R. Eugenio split the point with A. Saif.
2nd round results:
I. Hussain Giuoco Piano lost to A. Muhammad 0-1, R. Andrada routed the Sozin attacked of A. Dampil 1-0, G. Tolo (Unorthodox Opening) was stopped by J. Muhammad 0-1, A. Seidel (Queen Gambit trapped) E. Al Habeeb 1-0, F. Hilal blunted the Marshall attack of E. Mallari 1-0, M. Sangalang theoretical journey turn out well against R. Andrada 1-0 (advance game). M. Franco drew R. Eugenio.
Amateur chess players can now register for series number four. The first stage or the round robin will end on April 26 and the last part or the Stepladder Knockout final to be played from May 3 to May 24.
