JEDDAH, 3 May — The First Summer Open Bowling Tournament with a total cash prize of more than SR30,000 set off at the Jeddah Bowling Center (JBC).

The Brotherhood Bowling Group (BBG), Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah (FTBJ) and the Jeddah Bowlers League (JBL) jointly organized the tournament, will end at May 30.

The champion will receive a cash prize of SR10,000 and the championship trophy. The cash prizes of SR5,000, SR3,500, SR2,000 and SR1,250 will be awarded to the second, third, fourth and fifth placers, respectively. The sixth up to the 12th position will receive a cash prize of SR750 each.

The first bowler to score a perfect 300 during the qualifying round will receive a cash prize of SR1,000. Weekly cash prizes in the amount of SR1,500 will be awarded to bowlers who have submitted the highest 3-block entry during the 3-week period starting from May 6, May 7 through May 13 and from May 14 through May 20.

Under the rules, the tournament is a multiple block entry open to all male bowlers in the Kingdom. A bowler must enter at least three blocks to qualify. One block is three games.

Bowlers are classified into two groups based on composite averages drawn from the records of the Sunday League, BBG Tuesday League, ICBL, AFTBL and the FTBJ monthly tournaments. Those with an average of 185 and above are in Group ‘A’ while bowlers with an average of 184 and below are in Group ‘B’.

Entries with no composite average record or no tournament classification may use a certified average from recognized bowling centers in the Kingdom.

The tournament committee, however, is empowered to verify the bowler’s average certification and to reclassify a bowler to a higher group if necessary, and to decide on disputes, complaints and matters on playing rules for the successful conduct of the tournament.

Handicap will be applied and it will range from 0 - 4 for Group ‘A’ and 4 - 16 for Group ‘B’. A base of 190 will be used. The handicap is 80% of the difference between the base and the composite average.

After the qualifying round on May 28, the top 48 bowlers (24 from Group ‘A’ and 24 from Group ‘B’) with the highest 3-block series including handicap will advance to the quarterfinal round. At the quarterfinals on May 29, all qualifying scores will be discarded.
