JEDDAH, 16 May — “Leading change in business and society” is the theme of an international conference for women taking place in London for three days from May 21.

“The 2002 conference takes place at a time in history when the role of women in world affairs both political and economic is vital to a more prosperous and economically egalitarian millennium. The initiative is not a reaction to current trends, but rather a long-term continued fulfillment of its ongoing promise to support and enhance the role of women in business and society. We appreciate the renewed support of Trade Partners UK to continue this progressive outlook,” Ahmed Suleiman, founder Women in Business in the Arab World, stated on behalf of the conference steering committee. Trade Partners UK is the British government network dedicated to building British business success overseas. Similarly, the Women in Business Annual Conference continues to grow as a network dedicated to enhance business performance between the UK and Arab Business Communities, he added.

The conference attracts owners and representatives of over 150 companies whose net value is in excess of $5 billion with genuine business-to-business interaction.

In addition, the attendees at the conference have been inspired to return to their countries to develop their own business network.

“This year, we’ve concluded successful business skills training programs in the Middle East attended by over 100 delegates, all eager to enhance their entrepreneurship skills,” Suleiman said, adding that the 2002 program looked to continue this theme by additional workshops, more interactive and networking approach. “It’s a program that’s more based on skills that are essential tools to long-term entrepreneurial success,” he added.

On the opening day there will be a pre-conference networking dinner at the Berkeley Hotel, Knightsbridge London. Topics being covered on May 22 include the developing role of Arab working women, managing the work-life balance, women in entrepreneurship, developing and leading a global business, business strategy and international environmental constraints, marketing and branding adding value to products and services, brand development, analyzing market trends, customer care, and direct and relationship marketing.

The concluding day’s topics include Britain as a future trading partner, bilateral trade opportunities, the effects of globalization on business development, the developing relationship of the media and business, creating a business from media communications, role of women in media, the endless opportunities of female marketplace, strategic leadership and planning for business needs, business education and training and financial analysis of business.

Training workshops will cover leadership in the workplace effecting change, strategic planning and organization, developing a website, developing a business idea, drawing up legal contracts — do’s and don’ts, networking, financial planning, e-commerce marketing and development and effective communications fur business.
