JEDDAH, 24 May — Basahm Goody scored two straight wins and defeated FFP Sunbulah 97-85 for the championship trophy in the inter-commercial open non-rated division in Seiko-JBLIC basketball tournament being played at COCG basketball court in Industrial City State phase 1.
Basahm Goody capitalized the absence of two main gunners of FFP Sunbulah (Domingo departed to Philippines for vacation and Serrano who’s nursing injury). Ronald Batarao of FFP Sunbulah almost single-handedly shouldered the scoring load till the end of the third quarter. But Basahm Goody were unstoppable in their running game with Jamahali, Rongavilla and Centeno alternately attacking the defense of FFP Sunbulah.
Belarmino and Bughail of Basahm Goody out-rebounded Cecilio and Cadingan of Sunbulah in the entire game. Jamahali topscored with 36 points supported by Rongavilla and Centeno with 24 and 20 points respectively for Basahm Goody while Ronald Batarao scored 30 points for FFP Sunbulah.
In the next game, KIA Motors defeated United Carton 65-62 to extend the best-of-three championship series into Game 3. KIA Motors exploded with a 19-12 score in the first quarter and a 20-10 score in the second quarter. United Carton seamed started in the wrong foot, they cannot execute the plays and missed some easy baskets.
In the start of the third quarter, United Carton regroup and slowly reduce the lead into 3 48-45. KIA Motors suffered lapses in the start of the fourth quarter with United Carton continued to harass the ball-carrier of KIA Motors. United Carton were leading with only 18 seconds remaining in the final period.
KIA Motors applied trapping defense and United Carton committed a two costly turnovers. KiIA Motors intercepted an inbound pass by United Motors and converted the shot to ice the game. Correa and Amazona scored 24 and 23 points respectively for KIA Motors while Veneracion topscored with 16 points for United Carton.
