Girl hurt as sister fires hunting gun: An eight-year-old girl in Madinah shot her 13-year-old sister with a hunting gun recently. The injured girl luckily survived as the doctors at the nearby Ohad hospital succeeded in removing the bullet that was lodged close to her heart. The accident occurred while the girl was playing with the gun kept in her father’s car, according to the father.

Boy killed by father’s accidental gunshot: A 10-year-old boy was killed in Jizan when a gun which his father was cleaning went off by accident. The father had warned his sons not to come out of the house while he was testing the weapon but one of his sons opened the door and ran out and was shot in his head. The boy’s life could not be saved though he was taken to hospital immediately.

Baby girl suffocates to death in car: A three-month-old baby suffocated in a stolen car in Malaz district of Riyadh on Wednesday. Her parents had parked the car and entered a medical store leaving the baby inside with the air-conditioner on. When they returned after a few minutes they found the car stolen. Six hours later the car was found near the National Hospital with the baby dead.

Man injured in failed suicide jump: A Saudi received multiple fractures including a broken spinal cord in a failed attempt to kill himself by jumping from the top of a two-story building in Madinah a few days ago. The man, who is still in hospital, is suspected to be mentally ill.

Boy suffers fractures in fall: A 13-year-old boy fell from a four-meter-high wall while playing and became unconscious in Jeddah. His head struck on the hard concrete ground causing serious injuries. The boy, who has no other fractures, is in the intensive care at King Abdul Aziz Hospital and Tumor Center.

Shops closed for violations: The Dairah municipal authorities in Riyadh closed 262 shops for violating regulations last year. A total of 1,170 shops were found involved in various kinds of irregularities. The officials also detained 14 public transport vehicles and 39 hawkers in vans for leaving garbage on the roads. Meanwhile, Al-Naseem municipality closed 502 shops on charges of various violations.

Woman in hospital after suicide bid: A Saudi woman in Khamis Mushayt was rushed to hospital after she consumed a bottle of pesticide in an apparent bid to commit suicide. According to reliable sources she had some family problems. Civil Defense took her to hospital following an urgent call from her parents saying that the woman was in a state of coma. Police are investigating.

Five die in scaffolding crash: Five Asian workers plunged to their deaths when a 150-meter-high scaffolding collapsed at an electric power station under construction in Shuaiba near Makkah on Sunday, a senior official said yesterday. Three other laborers were hurt in the accident, the town’s Civil Defense chief Ahmad ibn Saad Al-Thabiti said. Press reports said three Bangladeshis, one Indian and one Filipino died.

Youth dies of gunshot wounds: The Baljurshi General Hospital declared a 22-year-old youth brain-dead from gunshot wounds recently. Though the circumstances of the incident are not known it is reported that his cousin was tampering with a gun in the courtyard of the house where the accident occurred. Police investigations are under way.
