JEDDAH, 29 June — A trip around the world to promote Islam by Mohammed Stefan Leca and his wife Noor Anamariah has been temporarily thrown off track. They have faced many obstacles in their latest adventure, and are currently back in Saudi Arabia in order to regroup and gather support for the last leg of their mission.
Speaking to Arab News, Mohammed was as optimistic as ever. "This trip has been full of surprises, good and bad. In Syria, we had our equipment confiscated. They thought we were spies. They took our laptop, radio and antennas. We were also attacked in Yemen while we were on the highway between Huddayda and Sana’a, but thankfully we were able to escape."
Not everything has been so turbulent on this trip. "The most rewarding aspect of this trip has been the all the wonderful people we’ve met. The people in Sudan were great, and although they live in poverty they are so rich in their hearts and sprit. The people of Saudi Arabia have been incredibly hospitable and supportive. Although our sponsor failed to honor his commitments, the show must still go on."
They were also able to set a few records regarding their car. Their vehicle, an Aro24 180hp truck, was equipped with a kitchen and bed.
"It was the first Romanian car to cross Africa, the first to cross the Equator, and the first Romanian car to arrive at Mt. Kilimanjaro. We are very proud of that."
Although their truck broke down in South Africa, the Romanian duo refuses to quit. "We are here to get all the support we can, so that we can continue and finish the last leg of our goodwill tour in America and Europe. Nothing is going to stop us," they said.
