JEDDAH, 11 July — Pakistan’s annual population growth rate has shown a modest decline from three percent in the 1980s to 2.1 percent today. Nevertheless it still remains one of the highest in the region and a lot needs to be done in this regard, according to Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf. On the occasion of World Population Day being observed today, the president in his message, communicated by the Consulate General of Pakistan, said: “The Pakistan government is alive to this situation and accords a high priority to poverty alleviation, and population welfare and planning.”
