JEDDAH, 12 July — Jeddah’s prestigious Lexus Club has appointed Adel Shoukry as general manager, in acting capacity. “I’ve been associated with this club since its inception eight years ago and worked in managerial capacities in the PR and sales departments over the years. In my new position, I hope to adopt latest managerial skills in further streamlining the club’s administration and activities,” Shoukry told Arab News.

Shoukry was sales manager at Lexus Showroom at Madinah Road when it opened in October 1995. He later moved to the adjoining Lexus Club as its public relations manager. “The club was started exclusively for Lexus owners and users. Its members now exceed 300,” he said.

In fact, Shoukry said, the new position was not new to him. “I’ve assumed the general manager’s responsibilities on many occasions in the past, while working as sales and marketing manager in the past three years.”

Shoukry, an Egyptian business administration graduate from American University in Cairo, is in the Kingdom from 1983. His first assignment was with a French company, Air Et Chaleur as its administration manager.

“My main objective is to increase the club’s membership to 450 members,” he said, adding that Lexus vehicle owners are charged an annual fee of SR5,000 and non-owners SR7,000.

Aside from offering and promoting sports facilities including international class tennis courts, the club also has an ongoing plan to conduct social activities. “In coordination with King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center, the club hosted a seminar presented for two of its specialists recently,” Shoukry said. Dr. Aidan Byrne, its consultant and deputy chairman, acting director of executive health care program, spoke on “Six ways to stay healthy,” and Dr. Syed Iqbal Rahmatullah, consultant cardiologist, Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn, New York, on “How to keep your heart healthy.” Club members were present in large number.

The club hosted an invitational tennis tournament some time back, attracting national and international players, notably from Egypt and India.
