JEDDAH, 15 July — A Saudi woman is planning to produce a novel documentary film on Jeddah focusing on its cultural aspects. "I have seen a number of films on Jeddah. Most of them are boring. My plan is to produce an attractive one," Mona Al-Nomrossi told Arab News.

Nomrossi said she has already contacted a number of national companies and organizations to finance the film, which she claimed would be "a turning point in Saudi documentaries."

Everything is ready for the film whose duration will be 20 to 30 minutes.

"We’ll start shooting soon after receiving funds," the producer said, adding that the project will cost SR500,000.

A graduate of the Academy of Arts in Cairo, Nomrossi said she intended to present the film in a dramatic manner, explaining the story of a Saudi family in Riyadh or Dammam, who used to spend their annual holidays abroad, but now wanted to visit Jeddah.

"My film basically intends to promote Jeddah as an attractive tourist resort," she said. Saudi Arabian Television and MBC television have agreed to telecast Nomrossi’s documentary.

She said unlike other films on Jeddah, her work will focus on the life and culture of people in Jeddah. "I have collected about 6,000 pictures of the city. I know all its secrets unlike the producers of other films who are mostly foreign visitors," she added.

Nomrossi intends to produce another film on Jeddah’s heritage, focusing on the old city and old palaces.

The heritage film will be 10 to 15 minutes long.

Nomrossi said she had not received adequate support from the concerned authorities to produce the film.

She expects support from the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry, National Commercial Bank, Jeddah Municipality and Saudi Arabian Airlines.
