RIYADH, 23 July — Planning Minister and Acting Minister of Posts, Telegraphs and Telephones Khaled Al-Gosaibi launched a user friendly website of Saudi Posts on the Internet on Sunday.

Dr. Khaled Al-Otaibi, director general of the Postal Department, said the launch was part of his department’s efforts to provide the public with the best possible services using modern technology.

"It also comes in line with the Kingdom’s move to speed up the establishment of an e-government by promoting electronic development in all areas," he told Al-Riyadh Arabic daily.

According to Muhammed Al-Suwainie, head of the Internet department and designer of the website, the site contained a wealth of information on postal services.

"Those who send their mails using the Mumtaz service will be able to follow up the arrival of mails in the destinations just by entering their numbers," Suwainie said.

The site provides the charges imposed by the department for its various services. "Visitors of the site can also understand the situation of their post boxes by just entering their numbers," he added.

There is a special forum for philatelists on the site where interested persons can register their names for a dialogue with other philatelists.

There is also an exhibition for stamps, Suwainie said, adding that all Saudi stamps would be displayed at this electronic exhibition center.

"The site will help postal employees to know about the latest circulars issued by the central administration," he pointed out.

The website, which is part of an information center project embarked on by the department, was created at a cost of SR2.6 million.

The information center project will be completed as scheduled, the paper said.
