JEDDAH, 23 July — As many as 189 hospitals in various parts of the Kingdom will take part in the cooperative health insurance program, which will be implemented within two months, according to Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Homaidhy, adviser to the health minister.
Speaking to Okaz daily, he said the program will be implemented in private companies and establishments having more than 500 employees in the first phase. "There are good prospects for health insurance in the country," Homaidhy said and estimated the Kingdom’s health insurance market at SR3.75 billion ($1 billion). There are about seven million expatriate workers in the country, he added.
"The participation of government hospitals in the program will improve their financial situation and services," he said. Homaidhy was addressing a seminar on health insurance in Alkhobar. The function was attended by representatives of public and private hospitals and health department officials.
