Turki arrives in Baku

BAKU, 1 September — Secretary-General of the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL) Dr. Abdullah Al-Turki arrived here yesterday for talks with Azerbaijan officials on means to enhance relations with the country. He was welcomed at Baku airport by Rafiq Aliyev, head of the government committee for the affairs of religious organizations, Saudi Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ali Hassan Jaffar and a number of officials. Earlier in Almaty, he signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Abay on enhancing cooperation in research and Islamic civilizations studies. Dr. Turki said that they agreed to set up a “Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Civilization Center” at the university. The center will be financed by MWL. (SPA)
