RIYADH, 14 October — A three-day international symposium, “Cancer 2002”, will open today at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center. Organized by the center, it will focus on breast cancer and lymphoid neoplasia.
Dr. Fatwan Al-Mohanna, chairman of the organizing committee, said that over 50 distinguished speakers from the world’s leading hospital and research centers have been invited to present papers at the symposium. An equal number of experts from within the Kingdom will take part in the event, besides 700 cancer specialists.
According to the national cancer registry at KFSH-RC, the most common type of cancer among women in Saudi Arabia is breast cancer (19 percent) and thyroid cancer (8.8 percent). For males, the incidence rates are 10.3 percent for liver cancer and 8.5 percent for lymphoma.
