ISLAMABAD: A senior Chinese diplomat reiterated his country’s full support to Pakistan, reported Xinhua news agency on Saturday, adding the administration in Beijing was willing to help officials in Islamabad “overcome the temporary difficulties” faced by the South Asian state.

Pakistan is currently facing myriad of issues related security, politics and economy. The country is undergoing the worst financial crisis in its history, with spiraling inflation, currency depreciation and critically low forex reserves.

Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC), held a meeting with foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on the sidelines of the 59th Munich Security Conference while assuring his country’s full support to Pakistan.

“China firmly supports Pakistan in maintaining security and stability as well as achieving development and revitalization and stands ready to provide assistance to the best of its ability to help Pakistan overcome temporary difficulties,” the Chinese official was quoted as saying.

Wang, who is also a member of the political bureau of the CPC Central Committee, maintained the ties between the two sides were strategic in nature.

“China is ready to work with Pakistan to implement the strategic consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and build an even closer community of shared future in the new era,” he continued.

The Pakistani foreign minister stressed China was an important pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy, adding the strengthening of relations with China and promoting the construction of a joint economic corridor were crucial.

“Pakistan will resolutely fight terrorism and spare no effort to protect the safety of Chinese enterprises and citizens in Pakistan,” Bhutto-Zardari said.

Following his meeting with the Chinese diplomat, the minister also took to his Twitter account and said the strategic partnership between the two neighbors was vital for regional peace and stability.

Bhutto-Zardari is currently visiting Germany to attend the security conference and hold bilateral meetings with the diplomats and foreign ministers of other countries to strengthen Pakistan’s relations internationally.
