RIYADH, 6 November — The government has appointed Saleh Mohammed Al-Ghamdi as its ambassador to India.

He succeeds Abdulrahman Al-Ohali who has been transferred to Jordan following his nearly three-year stint in New Delhi.

Ambassador Al-Ghamdi, who is currently posted in the Philippines, is expected to assume charge in New Delhi shortly. A senior diplomat, he began his career in the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1963.

He has held important assignments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in Saudi missions abroad, the Indian Embassy said in a release.

Al-Ghamdi, who has been Saudi ambassador to the Philippines since 1997, has represented the Kingdom at important GCC, Arab, Islamic and UN meetings.

The ambassador-designate holds a Master’s degree in political science. Besides Arabic, he is fluent in English and also knows Urdu.
