NEW DELHI, 7 November — Ahmad Bukhari, the shahi imam of the Jama Masjid here, yesterday reacted angrily to suggestions that terrorists had taken shelter in India’s largest mosque. "The government agencies around Jama Masjid are more vigilant than anywhere else. If terrorists are taking shelter in the mosque then it is the job of the police to nab them," Bukhari said. The Delhi High Court yesterday issued notice to Bukhari, among others, on a public suit that alleged that "anti-social" elements and terrorists had taken shelter in the mosque. The lawsuit alleged that shops and new constructions were being erected in the vicinity of the mosque at the behest of Bukhari, who is treating it as his personal property. "Public interest litigations have become personal interest litigations. The court should reject such lawsuits to maintain its dignity," Bukhari asserted. "People want to get cheap publicity by filing such petitions." (IANS)
