KARACHI, 11 November 2002 — Noted Urdu poet Syed Sibt-e-Asghar Naqvi popularly known as John Elia, who died following a severe asthma attack late Friday was buried in Sakhi Hasan graveyard on Saturday. John Elia was buried next to the graves of his brothers — another noted poet Raees Amrohi and Syed Mohammad Taqi. A versatile poet in the classical mould, John Elia, had command over Urdu, Arabic, Persian, English and Hebrew. Born in Amroha, India, on Dec. 14, 1931, he began composing poetry at the age of eight. He leaves behind one son and two daughters.
