RIYADH, 18 November 2002 — Prince Faisal ibn Salman, chairman of the Committee for the Friends of Orphans, an affiliate of the Charitable Society for the Care of Orphans in Riyadh, urged businessmen and philanthropists to support the society in order to fulfill its task of protecting and serving orphan families.
Prince Salman made this statement at a press briefing last night after attending a function to honor outstanding orphan students in the academic year 2002.
“ I find this holy month as a propitious occasion to renew the call to businessmen and philanthropists in the Kingdom to support this organization which serves as a connecting link between orphans and our society which is well-known for their help for the destitute.”
The prince also emphasized the duty of the society toward orphaned families, which suffer because of the loss of their breadwinners.
The prince also commended the support and encouragement provided by Riyadh Governor Prince Salman, chairman of the board of trustees of the society with the result that it has emerged as one of the leading charitable institutions in the Kingdom benefiting hundreds of orphan families.
“No doubt each and every individual is capable of fulfilling his duty toward this section of the people who are deprived of affection, pity and care of a father. They are living in extremely poor conditions, which makes it imperative for us to stretch a helping hand toward them to provide them what they miss. This is what the charitable society undertakes by caring for a number of orphan families and offering them various types of assistance,” Prince Faisal said.
The prince commended the success achieved by the outstanding orphan boys and girls despite their hardships.
Saud Al-Dhahyan, director general of the charitable society, said the society’s charitable activities have benefited 3,600 orphans under various schemes and projects.
