JEDDAH, 2 December 2002 — A 10-year-old boy, who was washed away in Saturday’s flash floods in the city, was still missing yesterday despite intense efforts by the Civil Defense to find him.
The boy was playing while he fell in the strong current and disappeared. The accident happened while several people were looking on.
In Makkah, the rains caused a minor landslide resulting in damage to 40 cars.
Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed ordered the Civil Defense to redouble their efforts to provide assistance to people affected by flooding.
Saturday’s heavy rains in Makkah triggered a landslide in the Ajyad district. It did not cause any loss of life or injuries.
“The strong downpour caused the rocks left by a construction company on a hill overlooking Ajyad district to roll down,” Maj. Gen. Saad Al-Tuwaijeri, director of Civil Defense in the holy city, said yesterday.
