BURAIDAH, 10 December 2002 — Police in Qassim arrested a Saudi man on Saturday night for allegedly shooting dead a police officer last week.
Police arrested the 28-year-old man from Dawadmi following a manhunt that they launched immediately after the incident last Wednesday.
Police said the man confessed to the crime. The man came to the police station in Ammar and asked for Khaled ibn Sanyatan Al-Homaidani, the slain officer, who was on duty on Wednesday morning. He took Homaidani in his car out of the town on some pretext and shot him.
The officer died instantly. A citizen took Homaidan’s blood-tainted body, which was lying in the street, to Ammar Health Center.
The man suspected that the officer's heart was still beating. He was transferred to Mudneb Hospital where he was declared dead.
Police said a description of the suspect’s car by eyewitnesses helped them in the arrest.
Homaidani is survived by his wife and one-year-old daughter.
Jizan police, meanwhile, detained members of a family in connection with the murder of a security officer.
The officer, who worked in Saqeeri police, was killed during an exchange of fire between a murder suspect and police. The suspect, who was accused of killing his brother, opened fire when police raided his hideout in order to arrest him.
