HYDERABAD, 26 December 2002 — Maoist rebels belonging to the outlawed People’s War Group blasted two diesel engines of a goods train in the Khammam district of southern Andhra Pradesh state on Tuesday night. According to a police spokesman, the incident occurred in a forest area about 20 km from the town of Kothagudem. A group of 20 armed men stopped the train carrying coal from Manuguru mines to Rayalaseema thermal power station in Muddanur. They blasted the two diesel engines with explosives, causing an extensive loss of property. Earlier, armed PWG rebels, including three women, stormed a railway station and kidnapped three railway employees.
