Rabie Foods clinch third win over fledgling IISJ

DAMMAM, 27 December 2002 — The 6th round robin league stage matches of 14th Kanoo League Division-II started after Ramadan and Eid-Al-Fitr breaks last Friday under the sponsorship of Yousuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Group of Companies (Western Province) and organized by Jeddah Cricket League (JCL).

The highlights of the 6th week are as Rabie Foods notched up their 3rd victory by beating IISJ by 4 runs. Talha Optics celebrated first victory by beating Hero Rangers by 54 runs. Saudi General Insurance (SGI) achieved the 5th successive victory by 6 wickets by beating Sahari Pack. KAIA and Nadir Toor were victorious against BRC and Al-Hamrani Fuchs Petroleum respectively.

In a thrilling match between Rabie Foods and Indian International School Jeddah (IISJ) teenager Amjad Hassan son of Syed Majeedul Hassan, Joint Secretary of JCL bowled extremely well to keep his team‚s hope of winning the first match on their first appearance in the season of 2002-2003 tournament, but his fine efforts were not matched by the batsmen who failed to chase the modest target of 116 runs, as they slipped from 110 for 5 to 112 all out 4 runs short of victory. Opener Muddassar Nazir-43 was the top scorer, then only wicket keeper Ahmed Kutty-15, Arafat-15 and Abdullah Joshi-17 reaching in to the double figures. Adil bowled effectively for a haul of 4 wickets. Saranga took 2 wickets. Earlier Rabie Foods were restricted to 116 in the 13 overs. Affam-29, Mansour-11, Afrooz-16 and Nafraaz-17 were the main scorers. Amjad Hassan finished the day with 5 wickets for only 8 runs in 1.5 overs. Ahmed Kutty was very agile behind the stumps for 4 victims.

Talha Optics batted first, scored 180 for 6 in allotted 20 overs. M. Amjad smashed-60 off 31 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 4 fours. Orangzeb Khatak-22, Asif-12, Saeed Anwer-25, Nazir and Safdar took 2 wickets each. In reply Hero Rangers folded up for 126 in 14 overs. Abid-32, Jay-32, Nadim-18 and Safdar-15 contributed. Skipper Saeed Mirza bowled very well for 4 for 19. Sahari Pack batted first and managed to score 127 for 4 in 18 overs. Thanks to skipper Sadath ullah‚s 72 not out and Orooj-24 runs. Both the batsmen also shared a useful 59 runs opening wicket partnership. Shakeel picked up 3 wickets for 29 runs. In reply SGI started off well through Abdul Rab-59 and Tariq-33. They put on 92 runs for the first wicket partnership. SGI achieved the target for the loss of 4 wickets and in 16 overs.

KAIA had a convincing victory against BRC by 51 runs. KAIA scored 131 for 7 in 17 overs. Muhamamd Nasir-19, Akber-53 and Zafer Khan-23 were the batsmen to make notable contribution. Iqbal 3 for 30 and Nisbat 2 for 12 were among the wicket takers. In reply BRC bowled out for 80 in 13.1 overs. Zafer Khan was the most successful bowler to finish with 4 for 17. Aslam Zaheer Khan 2 for 23, Zamim Abdul Ghafour 2 for 6 and skipper Mir Saif ullah 2 for 9. Nadir Toor handed Al-Hamrani Fuchs Petroleum a 33 runs defeat.
