Symposium focuses on health awareness

RIYADH, 31 December 2002 — Health Minister Dr. Osama Shubokshi, yesterday stressed the importance of health awareness. "Health awareness is an important way of correcting the misconceptions about lifestyles and nutritional behavior," he said while inaugurating a symposium here yesterday on health awareness organized by King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) in cooperation with the executive bureau of the council of GCC health ministers.

He expressed hope that the symposium would contribute positively to improving the standard of health care personnel.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Oweidi, supervisor general of KKESH, also underlined the importance of the symposium, saying it would help promote health awareness.

A number of papers will be discussed at the symposium, including one to be presented by WHO's Middle East Regional Director Dr. Hussein Al-Jaza'eri. Dr. Rida Khaleel, adviser at the Health Ministry, will present another paper on the ministry's efforts in creating health awareness.

Dr. Mohammed Mufti, supervisor at the Security Forces Hospital in Riyadh, will speak on the importance of planning for health awareness programs.

Another paper focusing on the role of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in fostering health awareness, will be presented by Dr. Talat Al-Wazna, director general of the ministry's medical services.

Dr. Shubokshi later opened an exhibition organized on the fringes of the symposium. (SPA)
