JEDDAH, 2 January 2002 — Sudan is allowing transport vehicles to enter the country under a new customs passport system called triptych from yesterday. This follows an agreement between the Sudanese customs authority and Al-Qadeseya Company. The company is in joint partnership with Al-Tayar travel group of Saudi Arabia with Gulfwide representation.
"With this agreement, the Sudanese customs authority has decided to discontinue with the ‘temporary release’ system and change over to the triptych system," Sharaf Aldeen Ali, president of Al-Qadeseya Company, said in an interview. "The new arrangement should ease the burden of people, especially students and investors, traveling to and out of Sudan," he said.
From now on, transport vehicles entering Sudan must go through Al-Qadeseya Company and its agent in the Kingdom or the Gulf. The new system is aimed to lower the cost and ease the vehicle entry or exit procedure.
Al-Qadeseya Company in cooperation with Al-Tayar group will provide the following services: Pick up any vehicle heading for Sudan and deliver it anywhere in and out of the capital Khartoum. The company will take the responsibility to pick up vehicles from the seaport and deal with customs offices.
This is however subject to approval of the car model by the Ministry of Commerce and customs office.
A study shows that owners of some 2,000 cars could not take their vehicles out of Sudan in time under the old system.
