RIYADH, 21 January 2003 — Bangladeshi expatriates have shipped the first consignment of relief materials, mostly warm clothes and blankets, to Dhaka as part of their effort to alleviate the suffering of the poor people reeling under a harsh winter that has killed at least 759 people in the country. Dr. Abdul Momen, a social worker, said on a daily average 60 people are dying in Bangladesh because of the cold wave. The pathetic conditions back home prompted the Bangladeshis working in Riyadh to launch a relief effort. (MGAK)
