Abdullah set to launch SR3b varsity projects

RIYADH, 1 February 2003 — Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, will lay the foundation stones for new educational projects worth SR3 billion at King Saud University here today.

The Crown Prince’s participation in the function reflects the government’s support for education, said Higher Education Minister Dr. Khaled Al-Anqari.

Prince Abdullah will lay the foundation for the second phase of KSU’s campus project and the girls’ campus in Daraeyya. He will also lay the foundation for the King Fahd Center for Cardiac Disease and Surgery and the medical supplies building at King Khaled University Hospital (KHUH).

The second phase will include buildings for the Faculties of Applied Medical Sciences, Computer Science and Information, Architecture and Planning, and Linguistics and Translation, according to Dr. Abdullah ibn Mohammed Al-Faisal, president of the university.

Faisal said Prince Abdullah would also lay the foundation for the university health projects in Malaz. This includes expansion of the Faculty of Dentistry for girls, expansion of King Abdul Aziz University Hospital and installation of a new air conditioning system for KHUH. Faisal estimated the total cost of the new projects at SR3 billion, including SR1 billion for the new girls’ campus which is spread over an area of one million square meters.
