MAKKAH, 2 February 2003 — Sheikh Saleh Al-Hussein, president of holy mosques affairs in Makkah and Madinah, will hand over today the Kiswa (dress) of the Holy Kaaba to the Kaaba's chief sadin (servant) Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheibi as is customary every year.
The ceremony will be attended by a number of senior officials. The SR17 million Kiswa is made of pure black silk. The height of the Kiswa, which is decorated with verses of the Holy Qur'an, is 14 meters.
The Kiswa includes the dress of the door of the Holy Kaaba, which is called 'Al-Burgu'. The Al-Burgu, which is made of pure silk, is 6.5 meters high and 3.5 meters wide. It is also decorated with verses of the Holy Qur'an.
More than 200 trained Saudis work at the factory of the Kiswa in Makkah. (SPA)
