JEDDAH, 15 February 2003 — A Saudi teenager robbed a shop in Khamis Mushayt on Tuesday, and shot at two of the shop’s staff, Al-Madinah reported yesterday.

The teenager escaped in a car with about SR10,000.

Police arrived soon after the incident and are still searching for the thief.

Shoppers in Khamis Mushayt complain that such robberies have become commonplace in the city, especially on Wadi ibn Hashbel Road.

Police have so far failed to track down the thieves, who also emptied an ATM on the same road.

Officers in Khamis Mushayt estimate that more than 10,000 cars are stolen there every year.

Meanwhile, police in Jeddah have arrested a Saudi teenager for stealing a car from Jamia district.

Al-Madinah said the youngster opened fire at police in a bid to escape arrest, but nobody was hurt.
