RIYADH, 21 February 2003 — A. Tismo and F. Cayde clinched the Master’s championship crown in Divisions I and II respectively of the OWWA 2003 Haj Goodwill Games organized by the Filipino Overseas Bowlers of Riyadh (FOBR) here at the Al Khozama Hotel Bowling Center.
In Division I A, Tismo bagged the title after demolishing top finisher Jojo Bulan in two straight sets of the twice-to-beat stepladder finals.
The third frame of the final game would have been Jojo’s break after two successive spares, but he faltered to hit Pin No. 5 (193-148).
The first game turned lopsided when Tismo hit four consecutive strikes for a big 228.
Bulan, Al Khozama Hotel Bowling Center Supervisor, met walls of splits and could only Sweep 147 including handicap.
Tismo, finishing third in the 6-game series semifinal round, routed fifth finalist Rey Dela (184-175) after the latter blew up the strong defenses of fourth finisher Willy Pamilaran (208-168).
En route to the title, Tismo maintained his winning form and clobbered second finalist Jun Balubayan by almost three marks (197-168).
In Division II, top finalist F. Cayde bagged the master’s event title after scoring 182 on the second game against challenger R. Tismo (171) in another twice-to-beat stepladder finals.
The first game went down-the-wire when R. Tismo fired a ‘turkey’ that sent the initial match to a thrilling exchange of marks.
Tismo outscored Cayde by three pins (222-219).
R. Tismo stopped the winning streak of fourth finalist P. Nave (214-175) after the latter brushed aside the challenges of fifth finisher G. Acosta (217-210) and after blasting third runner A. Arenas (182-138).
