KUALA LUMPUR, 26 February 2003 — Saudi Arabia yesterday called upon the international community to make every possible effort to avert a devastating war on Iraq, saying it hoped that Iraq’s readiness to facilitate the mission of weapons inspectors would increase the chances for peace.
“The Iraqi crisis is very complicated and threatens the security and stability of not only the Middle East but also the whole world,” State Minister Dr. Madani Allaki told the NAM conference here. “Everybody supports the efforts to tackle this issue through diplomacy and provide enough chance to find a peaceful solution,” the minister added.
Delivering the Kingdom’s address, he also emphasized the need to strengthen the United Nations. “International legitimacy is the best way to deal with such crises,” Dr. Allaki said. “We have to activate the UN role to solve this international issue.”
