NAJRAN, 28 February 2003 — Leaders of the Hamam tribe in Najran have decided to ban satellite dishes on the roofs of their homes because of the negative impact on their children and society in general, according to Al-Watan newspaper. More than 80 percent of Saudis now have access to satellite TV. The tribe’s leader, Sheik Ahmad Al-Hamami, said that it was not difficult to convince his tribe of the danger posed to their sons and daughters by being exposed to the programs broadcast through satellite dishes.
