WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., 19 March 2003 — A judge sentenced a man to 20 days in jail for setting fire to a sign announcing construction of a mosque. George Aboujawdeh, 46, pleaded guilty to the hate crime and was also sentenced to nine months probation and 100 hours of community service, at least half to be performed with a non-Christian religious group. Aboujawdeh is a Christian.
He also must pay restitution for the sign, write a letter of apology, attend an anger-management course and watch an anti-discrimination video.
