JEDDAH, 7 April 2003 — A consortium of companies from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the US, Egypt and the UAE seeking to rebuild Iraq after the war has received official commitments from America that more than $50 million in contracts will be awarded to them, Al-Watan newspaper reported. The manager of one of the companies, Abed Al-Harbi, said the group had received verbal commitments from America to double the number of contracts to the companies if they can execute projects correctly within the price guidelines. The consortium consists of 12 companies specializing in construction, hospital supplies, airport and seaport maintenance and operation.
