ALKHOBAR, 16 May 2003 — The United Bicolanos will hold its second edition of the “Fun Run for a Cause” today at the Corniche in this city.
The 5-km run will be divided in four groups: the Kids category for 15-year-olds and below, the Open category for ages 16 to 29, the Veterans group for ages 30 to 45, and the Masters division for ageas 46 to 59.
UB president George Palencia said that his group has decided to stage the second fun-run this month due to popular demand, especially from marathoners. The first fun-run was held in August last year.
Palencia said that a big number of participants is expected. He said even Saudis and other expatriates had signed up for the competition, which will start at 5 a.m. at the back of the McDonald’s Restaurant on the Corniche, Alkhobar.
United Bicolanos had been active in raising funds for victims of natural calamities in the Philippines, such as earthquakes, typhoons, and volcanic eruptions. Part of the funds raised were coursed through the Red Cross. They are also helping the distressed OFWs in the Eastern Region.
