JEDDAH, 16 May 2003 — A conference here yesterday discussed how a positive attitude toward vision impairment could be developed.
Organized jointly by Ebsar Center for Rehabilitation and Visual Impairment Services of Magrabi Hospitals and Centers, and Jeddah Marriott Hotel, the conference sought to promote social awareness toward vision impairment, exchange experiences between the visually impaired, their families and experts in the field, and encourage their participation and integration in social activities.
A demonstration of the latest improvements of talking and Braille computer technologies was one of the highlights of the event, which also featured a presentation of Saudi Arabian Airlines of its onboard blind service. Experts from King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital gave an overview of eye diseases.
There were two conferences — one for men on Wednesday and another for women yesterday.
Those present included Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Ali, president of the Ebsar executive committee and president of the Islamic Development Bank, and members of the bank’s board, and officials from the health and education ministries.
