ALKHOBAR, 17 May 2003 — Lately, Le Gulf Meridien Hotel has been the site of lots of laughter and fun. As a contribution to the Kingdom’s drive to increase tourism, the hotel came up with the idea to give local school children the opportunity to come for a behind-the-scene’s visit, and learn a little about the hospitality industry.
Every two weeks, groups of local students have been “Checking Inn.”
Under the guidance of Le Gulf Meridien’s General Manager Michael Nugent, the children tour the hotel from the Royal Suite at the top, to the kitchens on the ground floor, discover-ing the effort it takes to keep the hotel’s guests happy.
The highlight of the tour is the visit to Chef Lionel Pean’s gigantic kitchens where the students help the hotel’s culinary team prepare snacks.
The visits are a nice change of pace for both the hotel’s staff and the students.
On the last hotel tour, one little boy declared that he was going to become general manager some day so he could be the boss of the whole place.
A little girl had an even more amusing idea. She was going to grow up to be a princess so she could live in the Royal Suite and swim in its pool all day.
Le Gulf Meridien Revenue Manager Prashant Sharma welcomes all schools to contact the hotel to set up the free tours. Transportation is available and treats are always a part of the visit.
