JEDDAH, 23 May 2003 — ABS/CBN The Filipino Channel beat Zahid Tractor 81-70 for their second win in four outings in the year 2003 Seiko-JBL basketball tournament at the Bin Mahfouz Sports Complex basketball court. Zahid Tractor managed to dictate the tempo of the game up to the third quarter. ABS/CBN applied a running game plus a double/triple team defense to the tower of power Elmer Esguerra of Zahid Tractor.
The plan paid well when Zahid Tractor started to commit errors after errors and missed important baskets. Rene Consignado pumped a game high 38 points for ABS/CBN and was adjudged as the Seiko best player of the game while Elmer Esguerra chipped in 35 points for Zahid Tractor.
Mazda continued their winning streak and defeated AFI Huta Sete 66-61. Mazda in their usual pick and roll game caught AFI Huta Sete unbalance in the dying minute. Vhon Parto displayed awesome firepower to take charge the scoring load with 25 points.
United Naghi beat Hempel Paints 90-74. It was a ding-dong battle up to 3rd quarter. United Naghi pounded the defense of Hempel Paints in the fourth quarter with a barrage of three points shots and a man to man defense. Hempel Paints felt the pressure and started to lose control and committed costly errors.
Nap Solis scored 27 points for United Naghi and was adjudged as the Al Rabie Pulz best player of the game while Defante top score with 19 points for Hempel Paints. In Friday games, Saudi Foods Maggi edged Masa Pest Control 83-61. Masa Pest Control tried to stay in the game but Saudi Foods Maggi continued to dominate the shaded area. Bacotoc chipped in with 25 points for Saudi Foods Maggi and was the choice of the Seiko best player of the game while Talastas scored 20 points for Masa Pest Control.
Kodak-Gulf Royal beat Rockets-Omar Bill 67-62. It was a close match up to the last minute. Kodak-Gulf Royal went full throttle to contain the taller Rockets who dominated the boards. But the run and gun offense caught the Rockets flat footed in the dying seconds. Cherriguine and Bugayong scored 18 points apiece for Kodak-Gulf Royal while Abdullah topscored with 12 points for Rockets-Omar Bill. United Naghi defeated Jologs 77-59. Jologs managed to contain the highly favorite United Naghi of Jojo Esquivias up to the third quarter.
