BOSTON, 25 May 2003 — Derek Lowe pitched a complete game four-hitter and Nomar Garciaparra extended his hitting streak to a major league-leading 23 games in the Boston Red Sox’s 9-2 rout of the Cleveland Indians in the American League on Friday.
Lowe (4-3) held the Indians to two runs while striking out five and walking three. He is 3-0 at Fenway Park, with a 1.53 ERA, and 1-3 on the road with an 11.57 ERA.
Boston manager Grady Little told reporters that Lowe wanted to finish the game, despite tiring down the stretch in his 117-pitch performance.Garciaparra singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak and finished two-for-three.

In Oakland, Eric Chavez had two hits, including a solo homer in the eighth inning, to help the Athletics to a 4-1 triumph over the Kansas City Royals.

In Seattle, Mark McLemore homered and scored two runs to lead the Mariners past the Minnesota Twins 5-2.
John Olerud had two hits and drove in a run for Seattle while Jamie Moyer (7-2) went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits.
