DETROIT, 3 June 2003 — Alfonso Soriano and Jorge Posada homered in the top of the 17th inning to give the New York Yankees a 10-9 win over the Detroit Tigers, as Roger Clemens was denied his 300th win in American League action on Sunday.

Clemens failed for the second time to pick up the landmark win.

He left the game after six innings with an 8-6 lead, but the Yankee bullpen failed to hold the lead.

His next chance to register the victory will be next Saturday at Wrigley Field in Chicago against the Cubs in Interleague play, probably against Kerry Wood.

The Yankees haven’t played the Cubs since the 1938 World Series and Clemens has never pitched in Wrigley Field.

The 40-yearold Clemens allowed six runs, four earned, on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk and was hurt by some sloppy fielding.
