JEDDAH, 8 July 2003 — Agence France-Presse struck a deal yesterday with the Beirut-based portal Naharnet to distribute news in Arabic, English and French on mobile telephones in 16 countries in and around Middle East.
On a profit-sharing basis, AFP will distribute a selection of news by SMS text to subscribers, with a maximum of 160 characters in English and French, and up to 69 characters in Arabic.
The accord covers Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
