JEDDAH, 1 August 2003 – The Seventh Sadaka (Friendship) Soccer Tournament will start today in Asir. The event will take place from Aug. 1 to 15. This year 10 teams representing Asian and African continents will participate in the event.
Saudi Arabia will be represented by Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal, Al-Nasr, Asir and the Saudi Olympic team. The Syrian national Olympic team, Fajer Al-Shaheed of Iran, Iraqi Olympic team, Senegal Olympic team and the Morocco Olympic team are the other teams in fray. The organizers of the event, in order to bring in a variety of soccer in this year’s event, have invited strong teams from the region.
In the first group, Al-Hilal, Asir, Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia, Syrian Olympic team and Morocco Olympic team will play the league match prior to the knockout stage. In the second group, Al-Nasr, Saudi Olympic team, Fajer Al-Shaheed of Iran, Iraqi Olympic team and Senegal Olympic team will clash in the league stage.
Host team Asir will set the ball rolling by taking on Ahli in the first match, while the Moroccan Olympic team meet the Syrian Olympic squad in the second encounter of the day.
