JEDDAH, 8 August 2003 — Students of the Bader International School (BIS) in Jeddah have vowed to help make their new school become one of the best international schools in the Kingdom.
They issued their declaration of support last weekend during the induction ceremony of the school’s first Student Council officers at the school ground on Al-Rowdah district.
BIS is one of three schools in Jeddah with a license to teach the Philippine educational curriculum. It is operating under MOE License 145/s, according to its director, Helen Kiritharan.
Opened only in June, the rapidly expanding school has enlisted veteran teacher Nenita Palmero as principal.
Also at its helm are Maria Teresa Villanueva, administrative officer, and Emely Rufino, adviser. Both have extensive experience in school administration.
During last week’s induction ceremony, the Student Council officers promised to rise to the challenge of becoming part, rather than a problem, of the school’s mission in providing quality education to its students.
The elected officers of the council are: Mark Defensor, president; Eli Earl Flores, vice president; Donna Marie Kiritharan, secretary; Julie Ann Gabriel, treasurer; and Edwin Joel Davis, public relations officer.
Also elected were representatives from each level. They are: Janna Bouomero, Grade 1; Miguel Rufino, Grade II; Michelle Rufino, Grade III; Muhammad Farhan Sopero, Grade IV; Izzu Joemar Villanueva, Grade V; Ronald Arthur Davis, Grade VI; and Mustafa Noor Hossain, high school.
During the election, candidates were grouped under two parties — the United Party and the LOVE Party. Majority of the elected officers belonged to the LOVE Party headed by Mark Defensor.
The faculty and staff, parents and other students were on hand to witness the induction ceremony, with Mrs. Palmero administering the oath of office.
