RIYADH, 15 August 2003 — Al Amal dumps rival WRJ in the second week of the Saudi-Filipino Basketball Association (SFBA) 5th Open Invitational Cup held at the SAPTCO housing compound basketball court.
Manalo led Al Amal by 19 points. Pring, Gaco had 16 points each and Lacson had 10 points. WRJ’s offense was lead by Palmero, who topscored with 20 points. Caballero, Sison and Ayson put in a total of 41 points. Al Amal coach Jun Laxamana did a tremendous job of playing a low post offense and defending the big guys of WRJ in the shaded area giving them the victory 82-75.
In the second game of the day, SAPTCO team beat Greenland 78-68. R. Valderama led the team with 20 points including 3 triple point shots early in the first quarter. Cotoco and Conception had 19 and 17 point respectively.
S. Kolaifi, who hit 18 points, and Pabuna, who had 12 points, led Greenland. SAPTCO’s more agile and faster guys had the edge in the running game and beat Greenland 78-68.
