ALKHOBAR, 15 August 2003 — The BBC monthly tournament was held at the Al Gosaibi Hotel Bowling Center with the entry of bowling aficionados from all over the Eastern Province. Eugene Bongon’s display of unorthodox bowling form and technique won him the championship crown with a total of 800 pinfalls: 233, 227, 160 & 180 in this 4-game series tournament. Rey Labiano scored 682 points and settled for the 1st runner up award.
It was a close fight between the 2nd and 3rd runner ups with only 3 pins proving the difference between Francis Evangelista’s 669 points and Edgar Ancheta 666 pinfalls. BJ Bajo (658) garnered the 4th runner up award. Throughout the game, there was no real threat to the lead of Ayeth Aranas, the ladies’ division champion, with her 758 total pinfalls against the 1st runner up, Zaida Poblete’s 725. Between the 2nd and 3rd runner up was a 2-pin difference with Guy Domingo scoring 709 and Cindy Tupas’ 707. Gingging Bajo settled for the 4th runner up award with a score of 697.
“It’s the end of the drought,” said Aranas who had won any major award for the last few months. Her 223 pinfalls during the first salvo of the game assured her the top position. She managed to score a total of 758 pinfalls against Poblete’s 725. Glenn Villanueva and Lorenzo awarded the prizes to the winners.
Villanueva went on to announce Sept. 12 as the next date of the tournament. Henry Lorenzo, the construction manager of Al Mojil Group, sponsored this month’s tournament.
