RIYADH, 12 September 2003 — The first Saudi seminar on astronomy will be organized by King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) at its headquarters here on Oct. 2.
This was announced by Dr. Zaki ibn Abdulrahman Al-Mustafa, deputy supervisor of the Geophysics and Astronomy Research Institute at KACST. He said it will discuss strengthening the presence of Saudi astronomers at Arab and international forums.
It will also explore the possibility of introducing astronomy as a subject in the school curriculum. Other items on the agenda include new light on the period of the crash of meteorites in the Rub Al-Khali and the formulation of a system to observe light calculation of the stars. Dr. Zaki said the seminar seeks to develop scientific bodies to support projects and scientific research in the field of astronomy.
