VEEP Volleyball Tourney Opens

ALKHOBAR, 19 September 2003 — Miss Marianne A. Antonio of IPSA team won the Best Muse award during the opening ceremony of 1st VEEP President’s Cup All Filipino Volleyball Tournament held at the International Philippine School here last week.

The President’s Cup is another project of Volleyball Enthusiasts of Eastern Province (VEEP) in their continued crusade to promote volleyball in the Eastern Province. The tournament is composed of two divisions where Men’s Division consist of seven teams while the Women’s Division comprises nine teams.

Three special awards are at stake for the 16 participants. AFSCOM team emerged as the Best in Uniform for the Men’s Divison and D’Beamers team for the Women’s Division. Kim Cortez, press relation officer of VEEP, told Arab News that each member is expected to participate in training, outreach program, one-day tournaments, friendship games, community service, sports forums and information campaign.

“We are delighted and honored to host a tournament with such huge number of participants and followers. It is very much rewarding to see the tremendous response to our efforts to increase participation in volleyball,” Rocky Lumicao, vice president VEEP, said. VEEP will continue to hold trainings and move to develop quality coaches, trainers, referees and players in anticipation of national and international competitions.

The President’s Cup participating teams for Women’s Division: Al Fanateer Hospital/Samama spikers Jubail, Al Mouwassat Hospital, Astoon Hospital-Rockets, Saad Specilist Hospital- D’Beamers, International Philippine School in Alkhobar (IPSA), King Fahd Military Medical Complex-Caravan Cargo, National Guard Hospital-Samahang Novo Ecijano, Risal International Society in Arabian Land-RISAL, SkyFreight Forwarders.

Participating teams for Men’s Division were All Filipino Community & Sports Commission-AFSCOM, Al Bahar Restaurant Alkhobar, Jubail Men’s Volleyball Team-JBK, Khalifa Abdulrahman Algosaibi Trading & Consumers (KAAT/M2K), International Philippine School in Alkhobar (IPSA), Risal International Society in Arabian Land-RISAL and Whattamen.
