Goga XI Thump Pak-Friends in the Openers of JF-EP Super Cup

ALKHOBAR, 26 September 2003 — The JF-EP Super Cup 2003 Cricket Tournament sponsored by Shifa Alkhobar Polyclinic began last week with the match between Pak-Friends and Goga-XI at Kanoo grounds off Port Area.

Pak-Friends scored 67 for 4 in their limited 10 overs with Abid 25 and Iftiqar 13 topscoring. In reply Goga-XI eased past the total with 8 wickets in hand. Imtiaz Malik scored a brilliant 21 not out and had earlier taken 3/13 to clinch the man of the match award.

Baskin Robbins were beaten by Classic Friends in another one-sided match. Batting first, Baskin Robbins scored 75 for 7. Nawaz 14, Mehboob and Abbas 12 each stood out. Classic Friends won the match by 9 wickets, with Khalid scoring 32 not out for the man of the match award.

Kanoo Cricket Club batted first against Aziziah Panda to score the day’s highest -- 109 for 6. Shareef 28 and Ashraf’s 36, who was declared man of the match, were Aziziah Panda could reach just 47, Augustine was highest with 10.

Mangalore-XI-Ace Travel match ended in an exciting finish with the former winning the day. Mangalore-XI totaled 90 for 7. Gafoor 21, Nazeer 20 and Hyder 13 stood out. It was a one man show from Sajjad for Ace Travel. He scored a brilliant 44 took the total to 85, but Hyder grabbed his key wicket to turn what had looked like defeat to victory by five runs. He was declared the man of the match.

Zamil-XI batted against Algosaibi Cricketers and made 97 for 3. Zahid 32 and Sikander 22 led the way. Algosaibi were then held to 58/5. Rizwan 9 and Imran 7 contributed. Zahid of Zamil-XI was man of the match. Owais-XI, Star-XI & Eleven Cricketers entered the quarterfinals without taking the field following walkover victories.
