SANAA, 5 October 2003 — US Assistant Secretary of State William Burns disagreed with Yemen’s prime minister yesterday that Washington was not providing enough support to the Arab state for its war on terror. “I respectfully disagree with the prime minister that we are not doing a lot in the economic side,” Burns said. “It is in your interest to have secured borders, it is in your interest to fight the violent extremists who threaten your economy and the security of your citizens,” Burns said, referring to the US-assisted crackdown Yemen initiated shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.
