JEDDAH, 10 October 2003 — Al-Jazirah Motors showed why they are a team to contend with by stopping previously unbeaten Marhaba Superstores 66-56. Bartolo capped the win with 19 points, 10 in the decisive quarter when Al-Jazirah extricated itself from the clutches of Marhaba Superstores.

Maraya of Al-Jazirah also put in a show, scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter. Al-Jazirah’s bench was active in the game, and was a perfect compliment to Bartolo’s heroics. Marhaba’s Dumago made a last ditch effort in the fourth quarter, battling with 8 points. But his efforts were not enough to bail his team out of defeat.

Al-Jazirah went on to outscore Marhaba 21-14, for its third victory in four games. Rondilla and Santosscored 15 and 14 points, in a losing effort, for Marhaba Superstores. It was the team’s first loss in three games.

In other games, Al-Jedaani Hospital topped Sharbatly 84-72, for its second win in four games. Orodio had a big game for the winners with 20 points, his teammates Mercado, Gonzalvo and Geniblazo contributed 15, 14 and 13 points.

Sharbatly’s Diasay had 26 points, while his teammates Penaflor and Laurento scored 14 and 10 pointes respectively.

Baituna took it easy in the drubbing of winless Mednet Gulf 76-59. Maliksi had 15, Tablante and Batuhan 14 points apiece and Arce tossed in 13 points. For Mednet, Albano scored 14; Rocafort and Eria had 13 points apiece, while Brian had 12 points. Baituna is gearing up for a showdown with another unbeaten team — Dr. Baksh Hospital — going into the next round.

Finally, NASRPAC got into the win column after PCC Accessories defaulted its game. Games are held every Thursday and Friday at ALJ’s basketball court.
