DAMMAM, 10 October 2003 — The Maharlika International Shotokan Association (MISA) of Dammam took home the overall championship crown, including the junior division in the recently-concluded Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) sponsored 2003 Open Invitational Martial Arts Tournament held at Jubail Sports Complex in Jubail City, Eastern Province.
Edmar Suguitan, PSME sports director and committee chairman of martial arts sensei, was all praise for the tournament, and thanked those who supported and assisted PSME during the one-day tournament.
Maharlika team of brothers Alberto and Ramille D. Gonzales and Hussein Adil Moajili won the Junior Blackbelt Team (kata event), while in the Junior Team Kumite (sparring event), it was the MISA trio of Alberto D. Gonzales, Ramille D. Gonzales and Abdullah Maharma who bagged the trophy.
In the Junior Blackbelt Individual (kata Event), the Maharlika karatekas showed their supremacy by winning the first 3 places with Abdullah Mousa Maharma emerging champion while Ramille and Alberto D. Gonzales getting the 1st and 2nd runner-up trophies respectively. Moving to the Junior Blackbelt Individual Kumite, Alberto D. Gonzales was declared the winner in his weight class while in the Junior Blackbelt Individual Kumite lightweight division, Abdullah Mousa Maharama, took home the champion’s trophy and his teammate, Ramille D. Gonzales got the 1st runner-up trophy.
In the Junior Brownbelt Division, Hussein Adil Moajili proved his martial arts skills by dominating his weight class capturing the champion’s trophy in the Individual kata event and individual kumite event. Winner in the Junior Green/Yellow Division was Muhammad Salem Al-Hajiri of MISA in the Individual kata (small category).
Meanwhile, the smallest and youngest member of the delegation, Muhammad Adil Moajili accumulated additional points by winning the 2nd runner-up position in the Junior Green/Yellow Individual kumite.
